| Hans Tucher |

| Hans Tucher (or Ducher) was a member of a family of sundial makers spanning several generations and living in the south-eastern quarter of Nuremberg. There were in fact three different sundial makers named Hans Tucher, who became masters in 1537, 1557 and 1570 respectively. As the first died in 1550, the latter two (referred to as Hans II and Hans III) must be responsible for the large number of surviving ivory sundials dating from the second half of the 16th century and the early 17th century. Both Hans II (died in 1615) and Hans III (1547-1632) adopted a crowned snake as a mark to sign their instruments, making it difficult to determine which maker was responsible for which instruments.
