Gilt brass; 262 mm in diameter

This instrument was made in 1572 by Gualterus Arsenius, a 'nephew' of the innovative Louvain mathematician Gemma Frisius.

Gualterus Arsenius made several astronomical instruments between 1554 and 1575, and this is one of his last known instruments.
