Quadrant Unsigned Dated 1567; French Brass; 82 mm in radius
One side of the quadrant has unequal hour lines marked from 4 to 12 to 8, and the tropic and equinoctial lines marked respectively '[star] Tropic [Capricorn]', 'Aequinoctialis [star]', 'Tropic [Cancer]'. On the right hand side is a scale with the corresponding zodiac symbols for the declination of the sun. The limb is graduated with a scale of degrees from [0] to [90] divided to 5 and to 1 and bears the indication of the names of the months. Next to the apex is the date '1567' with a decoration of four stars and the indication 'Ad elevat ? poli ? 51 ?'. The back of the quadrant is blank except for the profile of a bearded man, perhaps the maker's mark.Ilaria Meliconi
