This very elaborate compendium by the Elizabethan maker James Kynvyn consists of a nocturnal, a latitude list, a magnetic compass, a list of ports and harbours, a perpetual calendar and a lunar volvelle.

It was made for Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex (died 1601), whose arms, crest and motto are on the inside of the cover.
