Gunner's Sight And Level
Unsigned
16th century; origin unknown
Gilt brass; 130 mm in height

The instrument consists of two uprights on a brass base and a decorated cross piece. On one of the two uprights is fixed a small plummet, and it is engraved with an equal scale from 1 to 5. The back of this upright is blank. The other upright has the same scale but without subdivisions and is numbered from 1 to 5. The back of this upright is engraved with a scale divided to 1/4 and numbered from 3 to 11. The numbers do not correspond to the major divisions on the scale.

The sight is pierced in a rose-shape sliding in the slot between the two uprights. The cross piece has a vertical slot.
