Tripod Legs

Wood and gilt brass; 240 mm in length

This group of eight leg-sections, in turned wood, embellished with rings and gilt brass decorations, belonged to the collection of mining instruments brought from Germany by Prince Mattias de' Medici in 1635. They can be mounted to create a stand for a surveying device, to be fixed in the earth by means of a point.
