The outer face of this instrument by the Nuremberg maker Hans Gruber symbolises astronomy in the form of the goddess Urania holding a globe and overlooked by sun, moon and stars.

The instrument includes an inclining dial and a direct reading sun and moon dial, as well as a compass and a table of the latitudes of 24 places.
