Vertical Disc Dial

circa 1600; Vienna
Gilt brass; 145 x 85 x 2 mm

This dial has a flat half-ring with a folding gnomon; it stands on a tripod and is surmounted by a soldered compass. The hour lines are engraved on one side of the half-ring.

Between the ring and the compass is a round brass plate indicating the length of the day and of the night and a lunar volvelle and aspectarium.
