Text:
Attributed to Dr Lee De Forest and his first triode experiments of 1907 in Denman, Vol II (p 74).
In 1906 De Forest modified Fleming's diode by adding a third part: a charged wire grid. De Forest named this device, the first triode, an 'Audion' and patented it in January 1907. This is a single wing Audion triode valve, implying it is an early model as later models had double wings. This was the very first commercial three element vacuum tube placed on the market that enabled wireless signals to be amplified.
