This year is the 400th anniversary of the birth of Johannes Hevelius, one of the most respected astronomers of the 17th century but now little known beyond specialist historians and inhabitants of his native city of Gdańsk in Poland. The Museum has an important portrait which has been lent to the City Museum in Gdańsk this year; it has now returned and is part of a small display in the top gallery.
