Evans bought it at the auction sale of the
Roussel collection in Paris on 13 March 1911 (lot 82). It was
probably originally made for use in Spain, but has been
altered and partly re-engraved at an early date, with the
addition of plates for Paris, presumably for an owner living
in that region.
