A total of 5,092 people visited the
Museum during August this year, the first time a monthly attendance
figure had exceeded five thousand since records began in 1984.
The number is all the more impressive next to July's figures,
which had been the first to pass four thousand. Only twice before
has a monthly attendance exceeded three thousand. The overall
attendance for 1995-6 (August to July) was 31,601 compared with
16,639 for 1994-5.
From the views of visitors as they enter the Museum, it seems the increased attendance is due to the move to Saturday opening, better signs at street level and the programme of special exhibitions. |
