Introduction

The exhibition “moonscope” was held in the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford from 24 May - 16 September 2007. It featured the work of the 18th-century artist John Russell and the contemporary watercolourist Rebecca Hind. John Russell’s lunar work is featured in a Broadsheet published to accompany the exhibition.

This website features:

Rising, setting, waxing and waning, eclipsed or occluded, our moon reveals many faces and yet still remains elusive. Its secrets and the way the moon paints the space around itself have long inspired me and lit my inner vistas. In this recent work I aim to distill the essence of that response in a cycle of paintings which leads my medium, watercolour, to new depths and scale.
