This receiver was used to receive the first transatlantic signal (the Morse code for the letter 'S'). Marconi handed the receiver to his assistant Kemp, with the words "Can you hear anything, Mr Kemp?" Denman, "Catalogue of the Collections in the Science Museum, Electrical Communication Vol II. Wireless Telegraphy and Telephony (London, 1926), p. 18 indicates Kemp as the original source of this item.
