A plaque attached to the baseboard records that this variometer was used by Marconi in the July 1920 speech and music transmission to the S.S. "Victorian" from Poldhu, in which the singer was Miss Dora Gibson. Various 'programmes' were transmitted to the ship as it sailed to Ottawa, Canada. Transmissions ranges included 2100+ miles (See Baker, pp 186-7).
