A microphone of this type is shown in a photograph (Photographic Archive Neg. 7474) of His Excellency Reijiro Watatsuki speaking to Japan from the beam station at Dorchester, February 1930. Similar adaptions of standard candlestick telephones were made during the Second World War for the Air Ministry.
