Text:
The Marconi Ribbon Microphone was used by the BBC from 1934 until 1959. Tiny pressure changes created by sounds near the microphone, cause the aluminium ribbon, (which is less than a thousandth of a millimetre thick), to vibrate between the poles of a large magnet. This generates
currents in the ribbon which mimic the sound wave. A microphone is a transducer which converts sound into voltages and currents.
