Notes:
Ship's Wireless Spark-Gap, with two cast iron hemispheres on threaded brass stems. In metal-lined heavy teak case with brass terminals on upper exterior surface. Lid hinged at front to reveal interior. Case lined first with asbestos and afterwards with lead in order to deaden the sound as the spark discharges across two mushroom-shaped cast iron electrodes. A zinc tray is placed in the bottom of the case in which quicklime is there to absorb the moisture and gases produced when the spark discharge is taking place.
