Type DEQ was intended as a dull emitter replacement for the Type Q and Type Qx valves, with construction similar to that of Q valve. It was designed by Captain H. J. Round for the Marconi-Osram Valve Co., and was introduced in 1923. It was of similar structure and appearance to the Type DEV valve. It had a filament rating identical to that of the Type DEV but also had pronounced differences: different glass supports for the anode, shorter gird electrodes, and different coloured paint on the exterior surface of the bulb and on the anode cap.
