Diptych Dial

Ivory and brass; 57 x 74 x 13 mm

Rather uncommonly, this diptych dial does not have pin gnomon dials, but only a string gnomon dial, which is both vertical and horizontal and indicates common hours.

The blowing putti, symbolising the wind, are a common feature in dials and especially in Paul Reinmann's, as well as the geometrical motif on the borders.

The inscription 'SOLI DEO GLORIA' ('glory to God only') is among the mottoes commonly used for this kind of time-keeping instrument. The mark of Paul Reinmann is punched on the bottom of the lower leaf.
