Diptych Dial
Attributed to a Thomas Tucher
circa 1600; Nuremberg
Ivory and gilt brass; 93 x 12 x 15 mm

This dial, which belongs to the Lewis Evans collection, is shown in W. E. Miller's portrait of Lewis Evans, which hangs in the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford.

It is neither signed nor dated, but the attribution to a Tucher workshop is based on the 'incorrect' table of epacts on the outer face of the lower leaf, frequently found in dials by Thomas Tucher and his son Joseph Tucher.
