16th century; Italian
Brass; 180 mm in radius

This surveying instrument is in the form of an octant. It is made up of a circular sector of 45?, in brass, fixed onto a wooden base.

The brass plate bears a finely engraved grid and, along its rim, a scale of degrees with transversal divisions.
