Diptych Dial

Dated 1582; Nuremberg
Ivory and brass; 55 x 78 x 12 mm

This oval shaped dial indicates the length of the day, Italian and common hours and Nuremberg hours, which were a combination of Italian and Babylonian hours. The maker's mark, a bird, is punched on the outer side of the lower leaf.
