Astrolabe
Attributed to Johann Anton Linden
circa 1590; Heilbronn
Gilt brass and silver; 69 mm in diameter

This astrolabe is unsigned, but for stylistic reasons has been attributed to Johann Anton Linden of Heilbronn in Germany, or his workshop, since according to some authors the Arabic numeral '2' is characteristic.

It is definitely a very elegant and fine piece of work, especially distinctive for its silver rete.

Another astrolabe attributed to the same maker is in the British Museum (Epact 95950)
