Brief Description: A cubic copper alloy-bound walnut box with inset handles and ivory name plates. The box has a small compartment on top with hinged lid that can be opened by a copper alloy push button on the front. Once opened, the chronometer is visible through a glass plate. Underneath this compartment is a larger compartment with a keyhole clasp that opens the box to reveal the chronometer. The chronometer has a circular silvered dial with roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and an up-and-down dial with Arabic numerals. In the top right corner is a copper alloy key held in a circular slot. The number 6572 is repeated on the top plate. Attached to the interior of the lid is a certificate that the instrument was cleaned by Kelvin & Hughes, December 1951, together with a rate certificate.
Primary Inscriptions: "DOBBIE MCINNES LTD GLASGOW LIVERPOOL & SOUTH SHIELDS" and no. 9522. "MAKERS TO THE ADMIRALTY".
