Brief Description: The wooden board of the camers has a circular fitting with two mill-edged attachments. The circular lens can be moved for focussing by a metal handle. Under the metal handle is a mill-edged screw. On the side of the camera body is a rack and pinion mechanism which allows the tray under the camera to be opened. The tray is fitted to carry 12 glass plates. The camera has a makers plaque on the upper surface and a printed paper label with instructions on the base.
Primary Inscriptions: "The Naturalists' camera / Rowland Ward & Naturalists to the Court / 166 Piccadilly / London." - plaque on upper surface. "INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING ROWLAND WARD'S NATURALISTS' CAMERA. / After loading the tray, with film side of the Plates towards the Lens, by the light of our Ruby Lamp, or out of doors by using our Plate Changing Box, proceed as follows:- / I. Set the Shutter / II. Drop the Plate into Camera / III. Focus / IV. Expose / V. Return Plate to Tray / VI. Make your memo and proceed as before / Rowland Ward & Co, Naturalists / 166 PICADILLY, W." - label on base.
