Brief Description: | Obverse: Figure of Christoper Columbus landing from a boat; inscribed "CHRISTOPHER COLVMBVS OCT.XXIIMCCCCXCII" Reverse: Two angels, a globe, torches and a sailing ship surround a rectangle inscribed: "WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FOUR HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LANDING OF COLUMBUS. MDCCXCII . MDCCCXCIII . TO ROYAL MICROSCOPICAL SOCIETY" The medal is held by a blue velvet lined case made of aluminum decorated with a floral pattern. The case is an early use of aluminum, and would have been a novelty at the time. | ||||||||||
