Brief Description: | The instrument stands on three turned, copper alloy legs on an octagonal box base. The base has a drawer for accessories and a concave mirror in a horseshoe mount is set on top. The legs support the body on a copper alloy ring. Below the body is the circular stage with a slot, a pinhole and a bracket to hold accessories. Two spring clips are attached to the underside of the stage to hold specimens. The pasteboard body is covered in black leather decorated with gold stampings. A draw tube covered in green vellum and marked with the positions for focusing pushes into the body. The eyepiece mounting and nose are lignum vitae and a copper alloy eyecup with a sliding dust cover fits over the eye lens. The accessories comprise five objectives in lignum vitae settings, a copper alloy aperture in a wooden collar, two glass disks, an ivory black and white disk, an ivory talc box, a specimen wheel with black and white disks and eight specimen compartments. |
