Brief Description: | Oriental dotchin, brass and ivory. In lacquered wooden case. Unsigned and undated. Dotchins were used by Chinese and other Eastern merchants for weighing silver, etc. A dotchin is a form of steelyard and the name dotchin derives from the Chinese, duhchenq (or tu4-ch'eng4) 'to weigh'. | ||||||||||
