Brief Description: Carte de visite (albumen print mounted on card) of Birket Foster, head and shoulders, looking to right, partly vignetted. Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899), artist, became famous during the early 1860s, at exactly the time of the vogue for carte de visite portraits of celebrities.
Primary Inscriptions: Printed photographer's details on front of mount: 'Elliott & Fry | Copyright | 55, Baker St | Portman Square', and also on back. Identifying inscriptions also on both sides, overwritten on back in Richard Inwards's hand.
Provenance: Presented by the Executors of G. H. Gabb in 1949. From the collection of Richard Inwards.
