Portrait of Garibaldi, standing three-quarter length, turned slightly to left but looking front, wearing his famous red shirt and carrying his hat, his left hand clutching his sword. Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) shot to fame in 1860 and remained the most celebrated heroic figure of the age, and thus the subject of many cartes de visite and other portraits.
