Duchess of Marlborough's Scales

Brief Description: Scales and stand in a glass cabinet.
The cabinet has a wooden frame and base with glazed front and sides; two removal slide-out doors to front. Front central panel has inscription plaque and keyholes. One set of scales is tiered with large pan to the base and smaller pan suspended above. Removable attachment to top hook. A second set of scales is tiered with large pan to the base and smaller pan suspended above. Third set of scales are on a wooden base and mounted iron stand with pivoting needle mechanism. There is a red painted iron stand with three legs, each of which has with adjustable feet. On its top is a square mount with four holes. Included with the cabinet and scales are two bags of parts including screws, hooks and cabinet furniture.
Primary Inscriptions: Metal label on cabinet: 'Presented by Lily Warren / Duchess of Marlborough / to the University Museum Oxford / on the decease of the Most Noble / George Charles Duke of Malborough / November 9th 1892'. DELEUIL A. PARIS
Provenance: Transferred from the Department of Chemistry, Oxford, in 1925, per Professor Frederick Soddy. From the Duke of Marlborough's collection, presented to the University by the Duchess of Marlborough after his death in 1892.
