THISTLE FUNNELS
mid 19th century

Used with gas-generating apparatus for dropping the acid onto the reagent. Although this form is still common today, it was already for sale in the nineteenth century. It is, for instance, listed as a 'safety funnel for gas bottles and retorts' in the trade catalogue of Richard Griffin & Co. of Glasgow (1841).
