Brief Description: Aneroid barometer in the base and "cyclonometer" in the lid of square mahogany case. Installed on the liner Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, launched in Amsterdam in 1929.
Primary Inscriptions: "José Algué, S.J., Director | of | Manila Observatory" and "Schmidt & Ziegler | Remscheid" painted on face of typhoon barometer; "BY JOSÉ ALGUÉ, S.J., DIRECTOR OF THE MANILA OBSERVATORY" punched on the cyclonometer. "Joh. v. Oldenbarnevelt" engraved on brass around the barometer, along with serial number 364 and logo "NSM".
Provenance: Purchased from Tesseract in 2012.
