London: Published for the Author, C. Varley, 1, Charles Street, Clarendon Square, by Horne, Thornthwaite, & Wood, (Successors to E. Palmer,) Opticians, Chemical, Philosophical, and Mathematical Instrument Makers, 123, Newgate Street, 1845. Together with (bound with it) an advertisement for Horne, Thornthwaite, & Wood's 'Patent Pantoscopic Spectacles', and Horne, Thornthwaite, & Wood's Condensed Catalogue of Optical, Chemical, Nautical, Astronomical, Philosophical, Surveying, and Photographic Instruments (both 1845). Inscribed on the second free endpaper: "This work was never published, owing to a dispute between Mr Varley and Mr Horne. Twenty-five copies were bound, and privately circulated; the rest of the edition was destroyed." Presented to the Royal Microscopical Society by J. E. Ingpen, 1908.
