Brief Description: Oak table model stereoscope. Peeping windows on front, two doors on top, one door on back, one small door on side of the case to open inside. Contains a number of black and white photographs mounted on a revolving carousel operated by two handles on the sides of the cabinet.
Primary Inscriptions: "MEAGHER, | MANUFACTURER | 21 SOUTHAMPTON ROW | HIGH HOLBORN | LONDON. W.C" on ivory plaque on front.
Provenance: Patrick Meagher commenced business about 1858 and was one of the chief early specialist manufacturers of stereoscopic cameras and viewers, of which this is a fine example. 21 Southampton Row was the address from 1865. Compare to the same manufacturer's hand-held stereoscope Inv. 90271.
