Brief Description: Platinum print mounted on card. Portrait of Felipe Valle, standing full length, facing slightly right of front, holding a cane and his top hat. Inscribed and signed by the subject to H. H. Turner. Tissue protector (damaged). Mount broken away at bottom (not affecting photograph).
Felipe Valle (d.1910) was director of the observatory at Tacubaya, Mexico, from where he inscribed this photograph to Oxford's astronomy professor H. H. Turner. The Paris photographic studio of Reutlinger, famous for its theatrical portraits, was founded by Charles Reutlinger in 1850, and operated until the 1930s.
Primary Inscriptions: Printed photographer's details on back of mount, and also 'Reutlinger Paris' on tissue protector. Inscribed and signed on back by subject: 'To Prof H. H. Turner. | Souvenir! | Tacubaya Febrero 22d 1902 Felipe Valle'.
