Brief Description: Voltaic Chain Battery c.1880 - Pulvermacher's pattern
Fifty cells, each consisting of a perforated copper tube with a zinc tube and intervening red fabric. Each cell is held together by connecting pieces of metal. The end two cells have a hole used for attaching handles which are now missing.
Chain Battery was found with a printed image of J.L. Pulvermacher who designed the battery. Image is on paper attached to green card. Card has handwritten pencil note on reverse: 'From an advt. in the English Mechanic, xciv (1911), p. 311.'
