Brief Description: | This degree plate, a fine adjustment scale for the swing of a long clock pendulum, is one of the few surviving fragments of the parts removed from the Christ Church turret clock when it was converted to electrical drive in 1917 by J. Smith & Son of Derby. The pendulum scale is made of wood which is attached to the metal base by two screws. Turret clocks (unlike regulator clocks) were not normally equipped with degree plates. Vulliamy was probably one of the first makers to install degree plates in turret clocks. | ||||||||||
