Brief Description: Disc with hour-lines on both sides, and a central magnetic compass [needle missing] that swivels so that it can be used for either side. There are five sets of Italian hour-lines and six gnomons so that the dial may be used in five different latitudes: 36°, 39°, 42°, 45° and 48°. One set of hour-lines is divided by the compass and has two gnomons.
Primary Inscriptions: "Roma anno 1588" [instrument similar to 49535 which is inscribed "Romae Anno dni 1585" and has been attributed to the same maker].
