Brief Description: Carte de visited (albumen print mounted on card) of A. C. Hyde Parker aged ten, seated nearly full length, body facing front but head turned to left, holding an open book in his lap, vignetted. He is sitting on a rustic chair or bench. A note in Hyde Parker's hand on the blank back of the mount, probably written in 1963, identifies the date and speaks of his using dry plates of the same date, 1890, manufactured by Pollard Graham & Co. to photograph 'the same person in 1958 aged 78'.
Pollard Graham's early dry plate manufacturing business Pollard Graham & Co. failed and went into liquidation in 1890. The dates confirm the dates of a selection of other material relating to Hyde Parker's experiments with dry plates, including a box of unexposed dry plates (93932), one of which was used for the 1958 self-portrait (12965, print 12966). But the man himself, Barker Pollard Graham (born 1845), continued to operate as a photographer at the same address (Rodney Chambers, Derby) until the 1920s, as well as opening numerous branch studios.
Primary Inscriptions: Printed photographer's details on front of mount: 'Pollard Graham Rodney Chambers | Corn Market Derby.'.
