Brief Description: Carte de visite (albumen print mounted on card). Portrait of Garibaldi, standing three-quarter length, turned slightly to left but looking front, wearing his famous red shirt and carrying his hat, his left hand clutching his sword.
Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) shot to fame in 1860 and remained the most celebrated heroic figure of the age, and thus the subject of many cartes de visite and other portraits. See also 12102, 12103 (by the same photographers), and 12105.
