Inventory no. 44152 - Former Display Label

Between 1760 and c.1800

Lacquered paper gores, printed from engraved plates and coloured by hand; in fish-skin covered case, with rims painted red. Not signed or dated. Inscribed, 'A Correct GLOBE with the new Discoveries'. Probably made before 1798 as it does not show Tasmania as an island.

Pasted inside the two halves of the case are gores illustrating the constellations of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The same gores could also have been used to make a celestial globe. They are inscribed, 'A Correct Globe with ye New Constelations of D{r dot below} Halley etc.'
