Connections between Islam and Europe

Europe took much of its mathematical and philosophical learning from Islamic sources in the medieval period. The objects here show traffic going in both directions. [1] reveals the Islamic influence on Latin astrolabes in medieval Spain. There are Islamic astrolabes owned by 17th-century Englishmen: the scholar John Selden [2] and Archbishop Laud [3]. Some later Islamic instruments used designs following European patterns [4, 5].
