Italian REGIOMONTANUS DIAL and QUADRANT

Lacquered wood, brass and ivory. Signed, "... PER MINI. PITTVM MON. OLI FABREFAC. M D L III.", and "... MINIAS PITT. FLO. FACI.". Inscribed, "TEMPORA LABVNTVR TACITISQVE SENESCIMVS ANNIS ET FVGIVNT FRENO NON REMORANTE DIES".

On the side shown is a "HOROLOGIUM SOLARE RECTILINEVM QVADRANGVLARE. VNIVERSO ORBI DESERVIENS ...", or Regiomontanus dial. It is made for latitudes 0° to 65°.

On the other side is a "QVADRANS HORARVM. AD LAT GRAD. XLIII. MIN. XXX. M D L III", together with a circular Zodiac/calendar scale and a table of golden numbers and epacts beginning in 1558. The quadrant is marked with lines for Italian hours, and is similar to the two Italian quadrants shown here (nos. I.19 and I.20); it includes a scale of degrees.
