Brief Description: | This astrolabe resembles Persian astrolabes of the 1600s CE. One of its plates, however, is inscribed latitude, 41°31', that is the latitude of Constantinople. This shows that the maker of the instrument, which is unsigned and undated, was probably catering for an Ottoman audience. The instrument also features the simplicity typical of Ottoman astrolabes, with few scales, and very clear markings. | ||||||||||
