(1) Untitled, Ashley, 3 October 1843, reflecting on ‘the motives which may have influenced the Ministers of a highly civilized country in the middle of the 19th Century thus to treat the invention of the Analytical Engine’ (2 sides); (2) ‘Of the Analytical Engine’, 19 July 1869, a ‘condensed’ technical description (unfinished); (3) ‘The Analytical Engine’, 8 November 1869, a technical description; (4) another similar description, untitled, 7 October 1869; (5) ‘Plan of a work entitled the Science of number reduced to Mechanism’, 26 November 1839, an outline for a description of the analytical engine; (6) several transcriptions of mostly untitled ‘fragments’, two dated 14 February 1858 and 30 August 1834 (‘Philosophy of Cal.
