Provenance: | Donated by Janine Lee, widow of Emanoel Lee.
The instruments were used by Emanoel Lee (1933 – 1986), a consultant surgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Lee established an expertise in gastroenterology, and pioneered a number of procedures. Lee also taught widely, both at Oxford and overseas, and served on the editorial board of the journal Gut. In addition to his medical expertise, Lee was also a gifted artist and historian, and published 'To the Bitter End: A Photographic History of the Boer War' 1899-1902 in 1985.
