Accession Record : Extract from Annual Report for 1928

FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1928 OF THE COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT OF THE LEWIS EVANS COLLECTION

Under 'Accessions'

'Photography. The accessions during the year will make it possible to organize a photographic exhibit of interest, largely due to the generosity of Mr. H. Minn, late President of the Oxford Photographic Society. Wet-plate Cameras by Robinson and by Ch. Chevallier have been received from Mr. Minn and from Mr. Alfred Robinson respectively.

The earliest stages in the history of the art are illustrated by some of Sir John Herschell's first photographic prints taken in 1839, and presented by his daughters, Miss Herschell and Lady Lubbock; by a fine "tin-plate" photograph taken of an Indian Chief when Sir H. Acland visited Canada with the Prince of Wales, presented by Miss Acland; and by early dated photographic transparencies in illustration of the various methods in vogue, c.1850-70 (H. Minn). To these has been added a series of dated colour photographs, including the Sanger Shepherd, Autochrome, Agfa, and other processes, presented by Mr. Minn, A. Thornton, S. Casson, and others. Early paper negatives and prints, dated 1855, have been given by A. Thornton, Head Master of Bradlington School.

Dallmeyer Triple Achromatic photographic Lens by R. T. Lattey.

Mr. Minn has deposited an important part of the wet-plate photographic outfit used by Charles Dodgson ("Lewis Carroll") of Christ Church when he took photographs of his Alices.'
