Inv. 32176: a variant on the Gunter quadrant

The typical Gunter quadrant has a scale of months adjacent to the degree scale on the limb of the quadrant. The thread is placed over the date and the bead is "rectified" by setting it against the 12 o'clock line.

In this example, the date scale is within the projection towards the apex of the quadrant. The thread is again set against the date and the sun's declination can be read off directly from the dedicated scale (there is no need for the more usual declination scale on the left hand side of the projection). The bead is then rectified against the ecliptic rather than the noon line.

In other respects such as the arrangement of hour lines and azimuths the instrument is the same as the standard form.
